THE OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY CLOSES SAN DIEGO LOCATION,
WILL UNVEIL NEW CONCEPT THIS FALL
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For 30 years,
The Old Spaghetti Factory has been an icon in San Diego.
Now, after serving millions of plates of spaghetti and tens of thousands of
guests, the restaurant is undergoing a big transformation. On Jan. 2, 2005, The
Old Spaghetti Factory located at the heart of the historic Gaslamp district at
275 5th Ave., closed its doors to embark on a major renovation and remodel. When
the restaurant reopens late fall, it will be a completely different
Mediterranean style restaurant, with an entirely new look, a new name, and a new
menu.
Part of the reason for the transformation is the change planned for the Gill
building itself, the historic building that has been home to The Old Spaghetti
Factory. The Gill is being reconfigured, reducing the amount of available space
for The Old Spaghetti Factory to about half of the restaurant’s size. According
to The Old Spaghetti Factory Vice President of Marketing Chris Hein, that was
the impetus behind the idea of a smaller, more intimate style of restaurant.
“We have loved serving the San Diego market for the past 30 years, but
unfortunately the new space limits our ability to continue to provide The Old
Spaghetti Factory experience,” said Hein. “We’re very happy to be able to stay
in the area, and we think guests will really enjoy our new restaurant concept,
which will be a first for us in the entire nation.”
To thank guests and to celebrate the restaurant’s long history in San Diego, the
restaurant donated 10-percent of its proceeds during its final week of operating
as The Old Spaghetti Factory, Dec. 26 – Jan. 2. Proceeds benefited the
Children’s Hospital and Health Center of San Diego. The donation totaled more
than $12,000.
Fans of The Old Spaghetti Factory will be glad to know that there are other
convenient locations in Southern California, including in nearby San Marcos. |
